Julep March 2015 Unboxing

Every Month starting on the 24th Julep gives you the chance to view your Maven box and customize what you are going to receive.  You can also opt to skip your box all together, or send it as a gift to a friend.  Customizing your box is easy and you can pick and choose all 3 items you receive from about 30-40 products each month.  Julep usually has 10-15 nail polish colors you can select (including “mystery” colors and top-coats), a few choices of tools for manicures, and a selection of their hair and makeup options.

This is my third full price month with Julep (you can usually find coupons to receive your first month free, but this is not customizable).  For January and March(this month) I have custom selected every item for my box with no problem.  I tested the “skip this month” feature for February (my budget just didn’t survive Christmas!)  Knowing and getting to pick what I am getting doesn’t make the suspense of waiting for a box any easier!  I was expecting to receive this box on the 11th and got it almost a full week early – an awesome great surprise for this week.

Opening my box:

Julep always packages their items in a very sturdy box with tissue paper and those little scrunched up paper things (these might end up in an Easter Basket!) and what pretty paper we this month!  The photos don’t do it justice, but the tissue paper is a beautiful shimmery aqua.  And they gave me surprise candies!  I love Smarties and can never justify buying a bag…. but this is a great bonus!  They also included (not pictured) a coupon for 30% off in the store next month, and a little quote about spring with a referral code on the back.

My choice #1:  Nail Polish (Jahnavi)
Nail polish is the whole idea of this box, so this month I picked Johvani because it is a great shimmery coppery-gold shade.  I am trying to get good copper tones for my nails since it is one of our wedding colors.  I really love how easily Julep polishes apply, and the swatched nail is just one coat.  The bottles are nice too because they are compact and can store together easily.   I would have selected more nail colors but for some reason this month just didn’t have a huge selection that appealed to me.  I think part of the problem is that I recently overhauled my nail polish collection and I have SO MANY colors!  I think I will try to slowly grow a collection of Julep colors to replace lower quality polishes in my collection (and then gift those away to friends or sell them at my next yard sale!)

My choice #2: Sea Salt Texture Spray (for hair)

I have super, super fine hair that rarely holds anything resembling texture.  I picked this because of the size for the price, and holy cow there is a lot of it!  I am hoping it works for my hair, but probably won’t get a chance to try it out right away.  It has a very mild smell (almost no fragrance at all), and the pump works easily and dispenses a nice even amount of product.  Smarties for scale!

My Choice #3: Illume Face and Eye Brightener in Champagne

I chose this product because I have been looking for a highlighter for my inner eye.  The swatch had really great staying power (I had to scrub hard to get it to rub off, and it left enough residue behind that I resorted to a cleanser to get the rest off.

 Final opinons:
All in all I give this month an A++ and it is well worth the subscription price of $24.99.  I really like that they let you customize each box and that they have a wide range of products to choose from.  Julep also has a rewards program (Jules) that you earn for every box you select, every product you purchase, and for referrals.  They have a special shop just for spending the Jules, or you can apply them toward box upgrades each month.  I haven’t redeemed any Jules yet, so keep an eye out for future reviews if I get the chance!
