Ipsy March 2015 Unboxing & Review

I have been subscribed to Ipsy since September of 2014.  Ipsy was my first step into the subscription box world, and a big part of what got me interested in wearing makeup again.  In my months with Ipsy I have only had one really disappointing box.  I think it is important to have realistic expectations of what you will receive for $10 a month, and most months Ipsy knocks it out of the park.  This month was no exception!  Each month has a theme and this month's theme is "Floral Fantasy"

First Look

Aaah!  Love the flowery bag!  I am a fan of the design of this bag, and the one bag I didn't like was January's, which had terrible, terrible colors in this design.  I am so happy to replace that bag in my purse with this cutie!  Every month with Ipsy you will receive 5 items and a bag.

This month's bag in detail, front and back:  

 The back is a great light blue, and it is made from a sturdy canvas fabric.  From experience I can say Ipsy bags hold up to a bunch of abuse.  This bag will become my new coupon/receipts bag in my purse, because it is so nice and flat!

Item #1:  NYX Cosmetics Butter Lipstick in Hunk

There were 3 colors Ipsy was releasing for the Butter Lipstick and from the moment I previewed my bag I started praying for Hunk.  It is such a beautiful purple shade.  The other two colors were "Pops" and "Little Susie".  I knew looking at the photos that "Little Susie" would be way too pink for my skin tone, and "Pops" is a cute mauve neutral that I would probably like, but wouldn't love.  Hunk I LOVE.  It is moisturizing without being to sticky.  I have found in the past that the NYX lippies are fairly long lasting, but make sure to pack it in the purse for touch ups!

This month Ipsy subscribers get 25% off on NYX lip butters, so I might pick up "Pops" just to try it. I'll report back if I do!

Item #2:  Pūr~delicate Gentle Soymilk Cleanser & Makeup Remover

I used this cleanser to clean up my swatches when I was done taking all my photos.  It has a nice slightly floral scent, but not too overpowering.  However, it didn't really do a very good job of cleaning off the lipstick and concealer (coming up next!).  I'm worried that it might end up being a bust for a nightly cleanser.  However I really liked how my skin felt after using it, so I might make it into my morning shower cleanser.

Item #3: Boo-Boo Cover-Up, Medium Shade

The Ipsy website states this concealer has ingredients "known to promote healing".  Swatched above with a thicker layer to show color (right) and a blended layer (left).  It blended very easily and had great coverage.  My wrist is much more fair than my face, so I think this might end up being a good shade for me (we'll see next time I have a pimple!)  It also had remarkable staying power in the face of the cleanser above, so I have high hopes for long-term wearability.

Item #4: Dr. Brandt Skincare Pores No More Anti-Aging Mattifying Lotion

This lotion has the most amazing peppermint scent.  It isn't overpowering, which is nice because peppermint can easily overpower.  It absorbed quickly, and I'll be testing it's mattifying abilities in the next few days on my oily forehead.  The tube is a little on the small side, and sadly it is only about half full.  I've heard promising reviews, so I might be willing to buy a full size if this sample goes well.

Item #5: VINTAGE by Jessica  Liebeskind - Illuminating Face Highlighter 

This is a beautiful lightly pink shimmery highlighter.  It is very creamy and easy to apply.  There are 3 lines in the swatch above - The left is a blended swatch (hard to see, only slight shimmer), a middle unblended line, and the right is an unblended line over the boo-boo concealer.  Since seeing this would be in my bag this month I have been looking up tutorial after tutorial on how to contour.  I can't wait to try it out tomorrow morning!

Overall opinion:

I am so in love with this month's bag!  When I first saw the contents I was a little sad, because there were some spoilers and these weren't my first choice from the spoilers.  But in the long, long days between my early "first look" at my bag getting it I started to become more and more excited about these products.  This month's Ipsy is a 5 Star bag!
